Kent Insulation Grants

There is still time to benefit from free insulation measures in Kent and surrounding counties as part of the Government’s Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme.

Home Insulation

Households in the UK could save up to £565* a year on energy bills simply by improving the efficiency of the insulation installed in the property you live.

The free insulation measures offered are:

Loft insulation.

Heat from your house will rise resulting in about quarter of the heat generated being lost through the roof of an uninsulated home. Insulating the roof space of your home is the simplest, most cost-effective way of saving energy and reducing your heating bills.

Room in roof insulation.

Room In Roof Insulation grants are currently available in some areas as part of the Energy Companies Obligation scheme. If your property has an existing room in the attic that is accessed via a fixed staircase you could benefit from a grant covering the cost of having the attic room updated to the current building regulations.

Insulation batts are secured to the walls and ceilings of the room and slabs of Insulation are fitted between any rafters. A layer of plasterboard is then installed over the insulation material and skimmed ready for decoration.
Fittings like skirting boards, radiators and light fixtures are removed prior to insulation process and replaced afterwards. There is minimal disruption and the whole process is usually completed within a day.

Cavity wall insulation.

About 35% of all heat loss from UK homes takes place through external walls. Most homes built after 1920 have twin exterior walls with a narrow cavity between them. This can be filled with an insulating material by injecting foam or beads into the wall. This restricts any warmth passing between them, reducing the money you spend on heating.

Insulating your home to current building regulations can reduce your energy bills on average by £300 a year. Having your home adequately insulated is also a minimum requirement for additional Government grants like the renewable heat incentive.

Insulation measures installed to date:

Insulation typeProperties Insulated*
Cavity wall insulation14.2 million
Loft insulation16.7 million
Solid wall insulation324,000
The process is quite straight forward, once your application has been processed your local surveyor will contact you to arrange a short survey of the property. Typically this takes no more than 30 minutes
