Great savings on failing boilers

Condensing boilers are really efficient, making the fuel you're burning to heat your home go further. Replacing an old G-rated boiler with a new high-efficiency condensing boiler and improving your heating controls could save you as much as £400 a year, according to the Energy Saving Trust. Is your current boiler wasting your hard earned income? if so check out here what can be done to save you money. You may even qualify to have a new boiler fitted free of charge or at a very reduced cost.

How condensing boilers work

A high-efficiency condensing boiler is a good choice if you're looking for a greener and more efficient boiler. This is because condensing boilers are able to make better use of the heat they generate from burning fuels, such as gas or oil. With a heat-only boiler, some heat is wasted in the form of hot gases released from the flue. A condensing boiler captures some of the heat from these gases and uses it to heat water returning from your central heating system. It therefore requires less heat from the burner and is more efficient.

Condensing boilers vs non-condensing boilers

Both combi and heat-only boilers can be either condensing or non-condensing. Building regulations now state that all new boilers installed in a domestic home should be high-efficiency condensing boilers, although exceptions do apply in rare cases. A non-condensing boiler will typically take air in from inside the room, whereas a condensing boiler will be fully sealed and takes in air directly from the outside. Condensing boilers are safer than non-condensing boilers, as there is a much lower risk of anything being sucked into the boiler.

Changes to Grants coming soon!

It is the expectation of the energy efficiency industry that Ofgem will announce sweeping changes to the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) grant funds that are available at the start of 2017. These changes look likely to restrict the amount of funding, especially to householders who are not in receipt of certain State Benefits.

There are currently up to 100% grants available for cavity wall and loft insulation, boiler replacements, night storage heater replacement, and Room in Roof insulation as well as a number of other incentives for people wishing to install renewable energy systems to their homes.

Many of these grants and incentives are available to all householders regardless of whether they are in receipt of benefits or not, but it appears this may not be the case for much longer.

If these announcements come to pass then this may be the last winter that householders will have the opportunity to take advantage of these energy saving opportunities

Surge of interest

Energy providers are reporting very encouraging figures on the amount of customers taking up free energy saving offers. Installations have increased by a massive 24.6% in the last year which goes to show the public are getting the message.

Greener landlords

Research has revealed that a great many landlords are looking to increase their property holding values by making them more eco-friendly. According to the findings 35% of the landlords surveyed said this was becoming a priority due to the Governments tax hikes.

Landlords should start taking energy saving as a very important part of the future if they want to achieve a good sale price for their properties. It is so simple to insulate and increase energy efficiency within the property and in some cases can be installed free.

One landlord surveyed in London said “as landlords we have been hit hard of late with the new tax laws taking effect next year”. “One very good thing we can do is to improve our properties carbon footprint and in turn increase their value. “I have done my research and with minimal outlay I can increase on average the property’s value by some £5000-£10000”

These findings go to prove that the Governments greener campaign is having the desired effect. When you consider all the facts and figures it certainly makes sense to be very serious about saving energy.
